Fundraising
I have been very open and honest with the information I have posted on line asking for help. I have posted documentation in the past and willing to send those documents to whoever would like to review them.
But here is a breakdown of the cost and the reason I need to raise $10 grand before the transplant.
The 2 major issues are medical insurance and medications.
Medical Insurance – Insurance alone is $610.00 a month. Currently the National Kidney Foundation is helping with the medical insurance cost. However, the NKF seems to set people up for failure with the way they help out kidney failure patients. And the reason I say that is because as long as I am waiting for a kidney transplant, they will assist with the cost of the medical insurance. However, the day of the transplant they will no longer provide any type of assistance.
So just in medical insurance cost for a 6 month period that is a total of $3660.00
Now the flip side is if I do not pay for the medical insurance then the medication cost is going to increase.
Right now with Medicare and the Private insurance I have the medical is going to cost $1,375 a month out of pocket. That equals $8250 just for medications post-transplant.
So when we add those together we get a total of $11,910
Now these costs do not include the out of pocket cost for medical treatment and follow up appointments at the transplant center. This will be 3 visits a week and with the transplant center changing their policy, payment must be made at the time of service now. They will no longer allow patients to be seen and send a bill. All co-pays will be due at the time of service.
Now on the flip side is even though I have Medicare, if I elect to drop my private medical insurance my medication cost will increase to $3,675.00 a month out of pocket.
For 6 months, that cost alone would be $22,050.00 for medication alone.
So my primary concern is to raise the money to maintain private medical insurance.
Now granted, I cannot let you call the transplant center to verify any of the information but I have posted the medication cost list and different letters from the transplant center to verify the information I have posted.
I have offered to send these documents to those thinking my fundraising efforts are a scam. They have refused to respond when I offered to prove my statements.
With the current fundraising I have been asking all Facebook friends and Twitter friends for a $5.00 donation. Currently I have personally asked 5000 people for a $5.00 donation.
As of today, the total raised has been $105.00
I need your help. If you can make a donation, please visit the donation centers at
Each donation center has an Obopay link, paypal address and my home address.
For those that have donated, I cannot thank you enough for all of your support.
For those that have not donated, please take a few minutes and consider making a donation and if you cannot send $5.00 please take a few minutes and help me spread the word about this fundraiser, please post a link to either site (or both) and ask all of your friends to make a donation and help save a life.
Thank you for your thoughts, prayers and continued support.
